Privacy Policy
For Sow Now. Last updated: 22 October 2026.
Sow Now is a free tool that shows which vegetables and fruit you can plant this week where you live. This page says exactly what it does with information. Questions: harfredlabs@gmail.com.
The short version
- There are no accounts, no sign-in and no cookies.
- Your answers and your patch (your planting list) stay in your browser.
- If you tap “Use my location”, an approximate location is sent to our server to look up the climate. It is not stored.
- There are no ads and no advertising trackers. We do not sell or share personal information.
- Shop buttons go to other websites. Those links may earn us a commission.
What stays in your browser
Your quiz answers, the Now / Next month choice, the town you picked and your patch are saved in your browser’s local storage on your device. We never receive them. Clearing your site data, using a private window or switching browser removes or hides them. The same choices are written into the link when you share your patch, so anyone you give that link to can see them. A share link is not private.
Your location
- Use my location. Only when you tap it, your browser asks permission. If you agree, your position is rounded to two decimal places (about 1 km) in your browser before it is sent to our server. The server rounds it again to a 0.5° climate grid cell (about 50 km), looks up that cell’s monthly temperatures and the nearest town, and replies. Neither the coordinates nor the result are stored against you.
- Typing a town. The letters you type are sent to our server to find matching towns. We do not store them.
- A first guess. Your browser’s time zone (for example Australia/Melbourne) is read on your device to pre-fill a nearby city. Only that city’s name is searched for. We never ask for your location without a tap.
What we count
We count three kinds of event without cookies and without storing your IP address or any identifier: that a results list was opened (with how many plants), that a plant was added to a patch, and that a shop button was clicked (which shop and which plant). They are written to our server logs as anonymous totals and used to see what is useful. They cannot be tied to you.
Hosting logs
Our hosting provider records standard technical information for every request, such as the time, the page and the IP address. It is used to run the service, diagnose faults and stop abuse, is kept for a short period, and is not used to identify you or to build a profile of you.
Shops and other websites
The “where to buy” buttons open the shop’s own website in a new tab. From that moment the shop’s own privacy policy and cookies apply, not ours. Some links are affiliate links: if you buy, the shop may pay us a commission at no cost to you. It never changes what we recommend. See how we earn money.
Service providers
- Google Cloud hosts the app and its server.
- Cloudflare, where enabled, delivers pages and protects the service from abuse.
These providers operate internationally, so request logs may be processed outside your country.
Data we use
Climate figures come from WorldClim 2.1 and place names from GeoNames. Both are open datasets built into the app, so nothing about you is sent to them. See About for the credits.
Children
Sow Now is not directed at children under 13 and does not collect personal information from anyone. If you think a child has sent us something, write to harfredlabs@gmail.com and we will delete it.
Your rights
Because we hold no account or profile, there is usually nothing to access or delete. If you emailed us, you can ask to see or delete that email and our reply, and we will respond within the time your local law requires and in any case within 30 days.
Changes to this policy
If we change what the app collects, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
